Werner Herzog film about Paleolithic Art

Audrey and I rented this DVD from Cinephile Video on Main Street (@28th Ave) on the suggestion of the proprietor - it certainly did not disappoint. This film (which was shot in 3D, and lucky us, we have a 3D set-up) is transcendent; it left us in a state of awe about humanity and human history.  HIGHLY recommended!  (note - it does not require 3D, that's just a plus) From the film's website:   http://www.caveofforgottendreams.co.uk/…See More

Worship: On Truth and Truthiness at UCV 949 West 49th at Oak

April 29, 2012 from 11am to 12pm
On Truth and Truthiness Sunday, April 29, 11 am Rev. Dr. Steven Epperson  Image credit: niemanlab.orgFrom those who question whether William Shakespeare actually wrote the plays of Shakespeare, to climate change skeptics, to post-modernist authors playing loose with the facts (what comedian Stephen Colbert calls truthiness). Does getting the facts, the science, really matter in our postmodern, mash-up world? Join us for what hopefully will be an enlightening look at a contentious subject.…See More

Oil Tankers and Pipelines with Ben West, Wilderness C'tee and others TBA.Does your RRSP portfolio hold Enbridge stock?  You might be surprised.  Most ethical funds hold Enbridge stock, and they're getting pressure from people like us, to get rid of it.  A UCV resolution on pipelines, First Nations, and our financial complicity with Tar Sands corporations will be the topic.  Come to the SANCTUARY at 1:00 pm.  It will be worthwhile! See More

How and Why to Ning... by Mary

The UCV Board has approved use of this site as a social networking site for our church. All members and friends of UCV are welcome.

Click here for the OFFICIAL UCV WEBSITE.
Some advantages of a Ning group are:
1. different sections can have different privacy settings. e.g., for some of the groups you can only access if the chair has approved your membership
2. administrators can moderate certain sections, e.g. the chair of a committee can manage that group.
3. You can "follow" some discussions and not others, by clicking at the bottom of various sections.
4. Unlike an email list, content stays up until it's removed. Members can share photos and videos.
5. Unlike a website, it's an "everyone participates" opportunity - once you join you can add and update events for your group or committee.

Back story: The ucv-chat email group was set up 10 years ago. Technology has advanced as has people's comfort level and capacity. The yahoogroup has provided an informal way for people to start or jump into a discussion and post information about UCV and community events. There are about 130 people on it. The downside is that the messages exist for only a moment in time and the settings are limited.

Finally settled

It's been a number of months since I've been here. I have been totally preoccupied with downsizing, selling a house, buying a new place to live, moving and unpacking. After nearly two-and-a-half months in the new place I'm finally feeling settled. There's only one room with boxes still waiting to be unpacked.…

Getting to the Church on time - on the bus

Subject: Bus Visiting - or Car pooling

I’m taking the bus to church at least 90% of the time now. It does take much longer *and* is more pleasant if I run into someone I know on the bus to chat with.

I catch the #17 at Broadway and Oak at 10:23 am or 10:38.(I transfer from the #9 from broadway and Macdonald)

Here’s the schedule for the bus:…
